Persistence of Vision

Persistence of vision is i a phenomenon which fools the eye to thinking that a series of images is to be seen as a live motion.

For example a Zoetrope is a 19th century toy in the shape of a cylinder that has a series of images place inside the surface of the cylinder. Around the dge of the cylinder is slits that when looked through whilst the cylinder is spinning gives you the affect of a live motion.
